Four More US Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan Day 112

November 23, 2009 by Mountain Republic

Notice how news of Afghanistan is virtually non existent right now from the major media outlets? Looks like the White House put out the word to all media outlets to back off on reporting any news from Afghanistan until B-HO figures out what foreign policy is. And it’s only been 112 days since General Stanley Mcchrystal urgently called on the president to send more troops. Only 112 days.

Four US and three Afghan soldiers were killed in a series of roadside bomb attacks and firefights with insurgents in Afghanistan, officials said Monday.

Two US soldiers were killed in a bomb blast in the southern region, where another soldier was killed by insurgent small arms fire, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.

The fourth soldier died in another roadside bomb blast in the country’s eastern region, the ISAF statement said. All four died Sunday.

Three Afghan soldiers were killed and two more were injured in a roadside bomb blast on Sunday in Musa Qala district of the volatile southern province of Helmand, the Afghan Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The mine was planted by terrorists, the statement said, referring to Taliban-led militants.

Taliban rely heavily on the use of roadside bombs, a tactic copied from insurgents in Iraq, as part of their nation-wide insurgency against the Western-backed Afghan government.

Six other Afghan soldiers were injured in a Taliban attack in the south-eastern province of Kunar Sunday, while one more soldier was wounded in a bomb blast in the southern province of Kandahar on the same day, the army statement said.

The fledgling Afghan army has more than 90,000 troops, while the NATO military, which is training the Afghan security forces, has said it would reach its goal of 134,000 by October next year.

Defence Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak said Saturday that the government intended to increase the size of its army to 240,000 troops. Such an ambitious boost would not be possible unless the US and other NATO countries agree to fund and equip them.

US President Barack Obama is expected to announce his decision by the end of this month on whether to send up to 40,000 extra troops – requested by his top commander on the ground – on top of 68,000 US soldiers and around 40,000 forces from other NATO countries already serving there.

Holiday Cranberry Relish Recipe

November 18, 2009 by Mountain Republic

Ever since I was a little kid(and that was a while back), we had always eaten canned cranberries with our holiday meals. I remember always looking forward to eating that jello like substance with my annual turkey dinner.

But over the years, my taste for the cranberry gel seems to have diminished. And lately, my wife & I have enjoyed cooking several birds throughout the year. We cook(or sometimes smoke) the bird, have a nice meal & then freeze the rest for turkey sandwiches.

Canberry in it's not so natural state.

Last year, I ran across this recipe for Homemade Cranberry Relish on Simply Recipes.com. It is supposed to be from a chef in San Francisco. And it is absolutely delicious! It makes me want to cook more turkey so I can make more of this relish! It’s so good, I find myself eating it all by itself! And it’s really easy to make. This relish is now a regular part our holiday meals. If you enjoy this recipe, you may want to freeze a bag or two of cranberries to use later in the year.

This cranberry relish is great on turkey sandwiches!

Relish in it's natural state. Just a bit more appealing!

Cranberry Relish

  • 2 cups washed raw cranberries
  • 2 skinned and cored tart apples
  • 1 large, whole (peel ON) seedless orange, cut into sections
  • 1 to 2 cups granulated sugar (depending on how sweet you want your relish to be)

The directions call for the use of an old fashioned hand turn grinder. If you don’t have a grinder, you can use a food processor instead.

Make sure to cut the orange and apples into small chunks before chopping. Use short pulses when using the food processor or your relish will turn out mushy. After chopping the orange, apples & cranberries,  pick out any oversize chunks for re-chopping.

Add sugar to taste. I like my relish a little tart, so I use about one and a half cups of sugar. After adding the sugar, make sure to let the relish stand at room temperature for 45 minutes to an hour to let the sugar dissolve.

This relish keeps in the fridge for about a week and also freezes well. It’s really great on turkey sandwiches!!

What a sorry fucking excuse for the leader of the free world.
He is a pathetic, little man who is out to destroy America.

Is it possible to kiss the ass of every world leader in just one term?

Veteran’s Day Prayer

November 11, 2009 by Mountain Republic

The following is a prayer for our armed forces from the 2nd edition of the “Service Prayer Book”,  printed in 1941.

——————————————————————————————————-

O Eternal Lord God, Whose eyes run to and fro throughout the whole earth, be pleased to receive into Thine almighty and most gracious protection those who serve in the armed forces of our country.

We commend them to thy fatherly goodness and pray Thee to take into Thine own hands both them and the cause which they uphold.

Prosper them in the maintenance of our country’s honor and keep them safe from enemies spiritual and temporal.

Grant that all they do may tend to peace on earth: that the inhabitants of our land may in peace and quiet serve Thee, our God; that war being done away, they may fight only in their Christian conflict against sin, the world and the devil, until they are called to rest in the triumphs of Thy glory; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen

A most sincere thank you to the men and women of our armed forces, both past and present from Mountain Republic.

Heroine Stops Fort Hood Terrorist. Or Does She?

November 7, 2009 by Mountain Republic
Hero Kimberly Munley

Hero or not??

Many members of the extended Fort Hood family are thanking God that Kimberly Munley reported for work as usual this past Thursday morning.

This petite traffic cop single handedly stopped the worst mass shooting ever on an American military base, a rampage that left 13 dead and 30 wounded, while being shot through both legs herself.

This gal is a true “American Hero”. Best wishes to her and all of the wounded for a very speedy recovery.

—————————————————-

Fort Hood, Texas ~ A police officer and mother of one was hailed a heroine yesterday after it emerged that she almost single handedly ended the massacre at America’s biggest military base.

Kimberly Munley does not look as if she would be much of a match for a heavily armed US soldier on a murderous rampage. But the slightly built 34-year-old civilian officer was first on the scene after Major Nidal Malik Hasan began firing on comrades at Ford Hood in Texas as they prepared to deploy to Afghanistan and Iraq. The 39-year-old psychologist killed 13 and left 31 others with serious injuries.

On Thursday afternoon Ms Munley was doing her usual job of directing traffic on the sprawling base. By chance, she and her partner happened to walk past the Soldiers’ Readiness Processing Centre soon after Major Hasan — armed with two handguns — cornered his fellow soldiers. Soldiers who witnessed the rampage described the gunfire as continuous, methodical and well aimed.

Ms Munley succeeded in bringing him down by shooting him four times, even after being hit by a bullet that passed through both her legs, according to witnesses.

Her swift reaction and courage were being praised last night for preventing many more deaths.

I heard through the grapevine yesterday that our heroine Ms. Munley apparently did not single-handedly stop the Fort Hood massacre.

Unnamed sources stated that a white male soldier fired the 4 rounds that took down the shooter, Major Hasan.  Munley was supposedly already laying on the ground wounded before any of the shots had hit Hasan.

The source also stated that the story of Munley as the heroine was “prepared” by the media. I will try to verify this. Would appreciate any relevant links. Thanks.
