It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God.
Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having ‘In God! We Trust’ on our money and having ‘God’ in the Pledge of Allegiance.
I believe it’s time we stand up for what we believe!

90 year-old Colonel Van Barfoot has until Friday to remove the flagpole from his yard.
Since this saga began, it’s been played out on the radio from Washington D.C. to Boston, but many believe what is happening to this true American hero is tarnishing the image of Richmond.
Barfoot lives in the Sussex Square community in western Henrico County. He moved there in July, and was ordered to remove the flagpole from his front lawn when he flew the flag on Labor Day, and again on Veterans Day.
The homeowner’s association doesn’t explicitly forbid flagpoles but they must be “aesthetically appropriate”. Short flags are allowed on porches, but Barfoot says that’s not the way he was raised to respect the flag.
“First of all, it’’s not dignified, and it shows you got it in the half mast position… you can walk around here and I’ll bet you the American flag is hanging out in the rain, nobody ever checks it”, says Barfoot.
Family members say he’s the most decorated American combat veteran alive. Barfoot has been awared more than 20 medals, including the Medal of Honor, The Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts.
Wounded in combat three times, Barfoot fought in World War II and in Vietnam.
And he has the support of a lot of people, including Senator Mark Warner. Warner says he’s outraged Barfoot’s neighborhood association wants him to remove the flagpole from his yard.
Barfoot says he will take it to court.
Meanwhile, the Sussex Square Homeowner’s Association issued a statement saying in part, “This is not about the American flag. This is about a flagpole… We are a neighborhood of patriotic Americans, many of whom have served our country in the military as Col. Barfoot has done..”
The homeowner’s association also says Barfoot knew from the beginning that he wasn’t supposed to have a flagpole without permission.

If it’s even possible, MSNBC reached a new low point last night when Chris Matthews referred to West Point as an “enemy camp.” I guess we know what side Matthews is on. And so does our military.
Matthews was trying to convey his surprise that President Obama would pick such a “strange venue” for this speech. Since when is it unusual for the president to address the military on defense related issues?
Another stupid comment from Matthews’ pie-hole was ” .…I saw, if not resentment, skepticism. I didn’t see a lot of warmth in that crowd out there....”
If I had been sitting in that audience, I would have had resentment and some skepticism too. I also probably wouldn’t have had a warm fuzzy feeling for the Commander-In Chief.
First, I would really resent the fact that someone not qualified to lead this country or it’s armed forces could possibly be sending me and my buddies off to die in Afghanistan.
I would also be very skeptical that our mission could ever succeed. The greatest of armies have been routinely dissected on the battlefields of Afghanistan. There’s a reason it’s called “The Graveyard of Empires“.
Chris Matthews. Consider the source, then ignore it.
We are being driven down a dead-end road. When our president says “Only the rich will have an increase in their taxes” or “It’s time that the rich pay their fair share”, it really makes me cringe.
Bill Cosby is one of the richest men in America. He earned his own fortune and he doesn’t owe me a dime. Neither does Bill Gates or Bill, my neighbor.
History always repeats itself. Hitler said that the Jews should pay. Mussolini said the Masons needed to pay. Stalin said those who have something must share it with others or give it up. Now, Obama is telling America that it’s time for us to pay up.
I’m not a Jew or a Mason and I don’t even have anything the government wants, but I do have principals and I do know right from wrong.
The people who want their neighbor to pay for their mortgage, health-care or ongoing welfare are truly nescient. They blindly accept the handouts, unaware that every time they accept another dollar, they empower the government a little bit more.
I do not expect my neighbor to pay for my wife, my family or me regardless of my neighbor’s income level. For any politician to use this as “justification for confiscation” is criminally, if not morally, corrupt.
Notice how news of Afghanistan is virtually non existent right now from the major media outlets? Looks like the White House put out the word to all media outlets to back off on reporting any news from Afghanistan until B-HO figures out what foreign policy is. And it’s only been 112 days since General Stanley Mcchrystal urgently called on the president to send more troops. Only 112 days.

Four US and three Afghan soldiers were killed in a series of roadside bomb attacks and firefights with insurgents in Afghanistan, officials said Monday.
Two US soldiers were killed in a bomb blast in the southern region, where another soldier was killed by insurgent small arms fire, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.
The fourth soldier died in another roadside bomb blast in the country’s eastern region, the ISAF statement said. All four died Sunday.
Three Afghan soldiers were killed and two more were injured in a roadside bomb blast on Sunday in Musa Qala district of the volatile southern province of Helmand, the Afghan Defence Ministry said in a statement.
The mine was planted by terrorists, the statement said, referring to Taliban-led militants.
Taliban rely heavily on the use of roadside bombs, a tactic copied from insurgents in Iraq, as part of their nation-wide insurgency against the Western-backed Afghan government.
Six other Afghan soldiers were injured in a Taliban attack in the south-eastern province of Kunar Sunday, while one more soldier was wounded in a bomb blast in the southern province of Kandahar on the same day, the army statement said.
The fledgling Afghan army has more than 90,000 troops, while the NATO military, which is training the Afghan security forces, has said it would reach its goal of 134,000 by October next year.
Defence Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak said Saturday that the government intended to increase the size of its army to 240,000 troops. Such an ambitious boost would not be possible unless the US and other NATO countries agree to fund and equip them.
US President Barack Obama is expected to announce his decision by the end of this month on whether to send up to 40,000 extra troops – requested by his top commander on the ground – on top of 68,000 US soldiers and around 40,000 forces from other NATO countries already serving there.
Ever since I was a little kid(and that was a while back), we had always eaten canned cranberries with our holiday meals. I remember always looking forward to eating that jello like substance with my annual turkey dinner.
But over the years, my taste for the cranberry gel seems to have diminished. And lately, my wife & I have enjoyed cooking several birds throughout the year. We cook(or sometimes smoke) the bird, have a nice meal & then freeze the rest for turkey sandwiches.

Last year, I ran across this recipe for Homemade Cranberry Relish on Simply Recipes.com. It is supposed to be from a chef in San Francisco. And it is absolutely delicious! It makes me want to cook more turkey so I can make more of this relish! It’s so good, I find myself eating it all by itself! And it’s really easy to make. This relish is now a regular part our holiday meals. If you enjoy this recipe, you may want to freeze a bag or two of cranberries to use later in the year.
Relish in it's natural state. Just a bit more appealing!
Cranberry Relish
2 cups washed raw cranberries
2 skinned and cored tart apples
1 large, whole (peel ON) seedless orange, cut into sections
1 to 2 cups granulated sugar (depending on how sweet you want your relish to be)
The directions call for the use of an old fashioned hand turn grinder. If you don’t have a grinder, you can use a food processor instead.
Make sure to cut the orange and apples into small chunks before chopping. Use short pulses when using the food processor or your relish will turn out mushy. After chopping the orange, apples & cranberries, pick out any oversize chunks for re-chopping.
Add sugar to taste. I like my relish a little tart, so I use about one and a half cups of sugar. After adding the sugar, make sure to let the relish stand at room temperature for 45 minutes to an hour to let the sugar dissolve.
This relish keeps in the fridge for about a week and also freezes well. It’s really great on turkey sandwiches!!
